GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Prizes and trophies are awarded to teams (of 4 players) to recognize their accomplishments during league play and in the playoffs (which are completed during the last week of the curling season).
  • Accomplishments in league play are normally recognized on the last day of regular play, whereas playoff prizes and trophies are handed out on the night the event concludes.
  • The Quinte Curling Club normally allocates a certain amount to cover the basic requirements for monetary prizes awarded to teams.
  • A number of trophies have been donated to the club by external sponsors in support of curling, and to recognize good team performance in specific events. Some sponsors continue to support events of their choice with financial or material gifts which can supplement the club-allocated funds.
  • The Friday evening Mixed League will be excluded from the allocation of club funding for prizes as this league is viewed as a recreational curling activity. However some funding will be provided to support this league's social activities.
  • Directors responsible for the various curling leagues are encouraged to maintain contact with active sponsors and to pursue new sponsors, all in the interest of maintaining community business support for the club.
  • League Convenors will decide on the distribution of funds available for those league results decided before playoff activity.
  • The equitable distribution of available resources for prizes has always been a challenge. In the interest of fairness and uniformity these guidelines have been developed.

METHODOLOGY - CALCULATION OF PRIZES

  • To provide prizes for league results before playoffs, approximately 40% of the total prize fund provided for the year will be assigned to league convenors. Each curling league (excluding Friday Night Mixed) is allocated money in proportion to the number of league teams compared to total number of club teams. The formula and allocations are on the next page.
  • Because of their higher profile, teams that make it to the championship week playoffs are awarded approximately 60% of the total prize fund provided for the year, in accordance with the table on last page.
Calculation of Allocations for League Results 2005/06

  • budgeted in Curling Prize Fund for 2005/06 = $4212
  • amount for league results = 43% x $4212 = $1812
  • total teams entered in leagues = 151
  • amount allocated per team in a league = $12.00 (Bd. decision of 06 02 05)
